Nori Program Expectations
The purpose of the program is to learn from participants like yourself and lay the foundation to build a carbon marketplace that is built with the perspective of the farmer in mind. But, like any foundational work, this can be an arduous process and will require a time commitment. As we hammer out the details of the Nori program using your experience, we aim to build a carbon marketplace that lasts. Each step in the Nori process needs refinement… in time, in efficiency, and in clarity… but we are refining these inputs based on a representative sample of Suppliers who use our product.
We are asking a lot from growers. That said, we are rewarding growers who enroll in our program.
What we need from you:
Time commitment of gathering records and entering data
Insights and shared learnings on how to improve the processx
Approval from landowners to enroll the land with Nori
Willingness to sign a NRT Agreement
Willingness to pay for verification
What you get from us:
Grandfathered NRTs - We offer up to 4 years of NRTs in compensation for Suppliers who go through the program, enroll into our marketplace, and sign the NRT agreement.
Preferred Selling Opportunity - By joining the program, your NRTs have the opportunity to list and sell on the Nori marketplace.
NORI tokens - If you enroll in the program, we will offer the amount of tokens equal to the NRTs issued to your project. These tokens are in a restricted account for 10 years (i.e. for the duration of the 10-year minimum NRT agreement).
Product
In the program, the Nori application creates a spreadsheet to capture your agronomic management data. The purpose of the Google sheet is to sync with Soil Metrics, our current Carbon Quantification Tool (CQT). Soil Metrics uses a greenhouse gas inventory tool (GGIT) that uses a series of crop, weather and soil models to predict carbon sequestration. These models are validated and calibrated by agronomic and soil data.
Process
What Are the Steps in the Nori Program Enrollment Process once you are qualified?
Create account - sign up at https://nori.com/app
Begin a trial run - We suggest running a small sample of fields in your project (~ 3 fields) to accurately estimate projected and grandfathered NRTs for your operation. Estimation of NRTs requires agronomic practices from 2000 - 2030 for each field. This gives you a preliminary set of numbers to decide if moving forward with your full project will be worth your time.
Full enrollment - If the numbers from the trial run are satisfactory, begin the full enrollment of your project by adding the remaining fields that are part of your project along with the corresponding annual crop practice records. At this stage, we also recommend you begin discussions with landowners, as this is required for verification and may take some time. Nori will calculate the grandfathered NRTs you qualify for, subject to verification, as well as a provisional forecast of the NRTs you might earn over the 10 year project term. We want you to be able to see these estimates before you make the decision to hire a verifier.
Verification - Hire a third party to audit your data and provide Nori assurance the data are reasonable and replicable. This requires the landowners to give permission for their land to be enrolled in Nori.
Sign the NRT agreement. The NRT agreement initiates enrollment into the Nori marketplace.
Receive NRTs and sell NRTs on the Nori Marketplace or retire them unsold.
Note that Nori’s Data Privacy Policy guarantees that Nori and Soil Metrics will only use your operating data for the purpose of estimating SOCSC and issuing NRTs, and for no other purpose and that you always own your data.
