Error messages during project creation and quantification

Sometimes during Project creation, the Nori supplier app or the Google spreadsheet may generate errors. Below are some possible errors you may encounter and steps you can take to resolve these issues.

Project appears to remain in a loading state indefinitely

Sometimes, the project page for a newly created project doesn't allow the user to add field sets or upload any data spec files. This can only be remedied by deleting the project and creating a new one, unfortunately.Screen shot of a project page with the "Import data spec" and "+ add field set" buttons disabled, and a loading circle displayed

Spreadsheet errors

Sometimes trying to edit the Google Spreadsheet data with an ad blocker browser plugin or extension installed results in a Google Spreadsheet error, such as "Can't sync your changes. Copy your recent edits, then revert your changes." This can be prevented by opening the project and spreadsheet in a Google Chrome incognito window, or by disabling ad blocker browser plug-ins/extensions such as Ghostery.

Quantification errors

Nori App Errors may come up after entering all project data and running the model. This article gives tips on what to look for and how to find problems in the spreadsheet. Errors are not limited to these and this document is consistently developing.

Now that you have entered all project data, you are ready to see your NRT projections. You click “run model” and wait for your results.

There are a few different messages you might see after running your project through Soil Metrics.

If you see this message, great! You have run a successful project and don’t have errors to troubleshoot. You will still need to QA your project, though. How to do that can be found here.

This message tells you that there are some things that need to be corrected within your project. The following tips should give you a place to start troubleshooting.

What information have you been given with the error messages displayed?

  • What Field is the error in? The field name is displayed just before the error messages appear.
  • Does the error note harvest, tillage, fertilizer, OMAD, irrigation?
    • Parsing errors:

      • Check for missing or blank dates

    • Future Date errors:

      • Check to make sure the switch date is not the current year or later.

      • Make sure harvest dates are after the plant date in the same line.

    • Perennial Errors:

      • Example 1: "Contains an invalid perennial definition. Could not find a matching initial perennial crop."

        • Check for the first planting date or the date formula

      • Example 2: "Irrigation dates cannot overlap with next crops harvest date"

        • The model is counting multi-harvests in the same year as the next crop and irrigation data should be removed for that year

    • Irrigation Errors

      • Although the spreadsheet does list frequency of application as optional, it is only optional if there is not an end date associated with the application. If there is an end date listed without a frequency, the model will not run. You can either remove the end date or enter a frequency value to correct this.In this case, you will not see an error or a timeout, just that the model will not stop running.
      • If you accidentally entered a negative number for an irrigation volume, you may see an error indicating that the value cannot be less than zero.
  • Fertilizer Errors:

    • Check Classification

      • A hidden column may need to be recopied - contact your supply account manager for details

    • Application type

      • Hidden column may need to be copied or populated with the correct value, or the Inputs tab may need to have this information entered.

    • Date Applied

      • Would give you a parsing error for missing or invalid data

    • Slurry: Gallons/Acre

      • Right now the model reads gal/ac as tons/ac

      • You will need to convert slurries into solids

        • Take into account the change in moisture

Have you checked the Inputs tab?

  1. Classification errors may show a red tab in the corner of a cell

  • Check classification values in the Inputs tab

  1. Did you manually overwrite a formula?

  • Recopy formulas in spreadsheet - copy a blank cell and choose "Paste Special>Formula only" from the Edit menu (right-click to access it in the spreadsheet)

Have you checked the Hidden columns?

  1. Is there a reference error in the hidden columns?
  • Recopy formulas in hidden column

Timeout Errors:

These can happen for a few different reasons.

  1. Your project could be later in the running queue and times out after waiting. In this case we may be able to rerun and get a successful outcome. If you still get timeout errors after rerunning, let your SAM know.

  2. Sometimes these errors are simply a google sheet error. Your SAM can see where the model (which field) is getting stuck and we can troubleshoot together.

  3. This could be an error from Soil Metrics. If the first two steps do not work, we can bring this to the Soil Metrics team to troubleshoot.

Other errors

Errors adding collaborators

Sometimes, when a supplier is adding other suppliers as collaborators, they will receive an error message. The error will read: "No Supplier was found for this email. Please create a supplier profile with this email before adding them as a collaborator" - even when the supplier has created an account. This can be due to the supplier having signed up using one or more capital letters in the email address field. The email address must be typed exactly as it was entered, including capitalization. For example, if the supplier created an account with the email address as "CARBONSUPPLIER25@GMAIL.COM" - the email address must be typed in all caps in the Add collaborator screen. The alternative to this is to have the supplier log in to the Nori supplier app, click the Account navigation item, and edit the email address listed in the Supplier profile to be all lower case. If you have tried matching the capitalization and still receive the same error message, please contact support.
